The Yin and Yang of Creativity

In the creative process it’s necessary to not get too attached to the creative work we produce. As photographers we need to treat our photographs as we would treat our own children. They come from us – but they aren’t us. This is exactly the same relationship we need to have to our photographs. We need to engage in the process to be able to create personal work that will also engage our viewers. At the same time we need to stand back and detach ourselves from the work to be able to bring out the best of it. We need some critical distance to our work at the same time we are connected to it. In many ways this is the yin and yang of the creative process.
